WELCOME BACK TO MOORESTOWN MONTHLY MEETING

Watch the renovations that took place at Moorestown Meeting: October 2022 – August 2023

A bench fashioned from the original balcony beam, including hand-forged nails, was auctioned at the re-opening celebration on September 23, 2023. It was donated back to the Meeting. Additional items will be created from Meetinghouse materials in the future to raise funds for the next phases of restoration.

The Moorestown Meetinghouse is the home of the Moorestown Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and has been in continuous use since 1802. It is the focal point for religious worship, education, social functions, and community outreach for its members and the Moorestown Friends School community.

A new roof was installed, and the attic floor refurbished. Shoring up the balcony to current building standards will allow us and the school to use the Meeting Room to full capacity once again. New floor coverings and paint will be added to the Meeting Room.  Fiber optic connection to the school will provide electronic technology for the worship, business, and education activities for our members and the school community. In addition, a new and more energy efficient boiler will be installed. We must invest a total of $1,250,000 into the meetinghouse within the next six months to complete the necessary structural changes required for our continued safety and security.

With sensitivity to the historical and aesthetic character of the interior and exterior of the Meetinghouse, we must address not only serious current deficiencies, but also create a space that will support future generations within its walls.

The Moorestown Monthly Meeting Vision Plan is a roadmap for renovating the Meetinghouse.

This comprehensive plan divided the renovation into several phases, each addressing specific areas of need. The first phase centers on structural issues – the roof, the attic floor, building foundation, and the Meeting Room balcony – which require immediate attention to ensure the safety and security of our Meetinghouse.

Architectural Vision for Moorestown Meeting Renovations to Include Accessibility by All

More work is needed to preserve the meetinghouse.

Subsequent phases of renovation will address the water intrusion issues in the basement office and classrooms. Next, the addition of accessible entrances and parking areas will open our doors to all. Upgrades to our entrance walkways and gardens are planned.  Finally, we hope to move towards renewable energy sources, including the installation of energy efficient air conditioning to help preserve the historic treasures housed inside the meetinghouse.
